Humbug ...

Is anyone else having trouble getting into the holiday spirit? Anyone? Anyone?

Yeah, I know what you mean.

I don't know what it is. Could be the economy being in the toilet, or the terrorism that has ramped up overseas, or the fact that the most legendary strip club in Hollywood burned down this morning, or the news that Paris Hilton wants to play Tinkerbell in the upcoming live-action version of her story, or that Pushing Daisies has been canceled.

Or maybe it's just me.

Anyway, I've been encouraged by someone near and dear that I have to start blogging on a regular basis again. So I will endeavor to do so. And I'll try not to bring the room down in the process.

Well, I think the first thing you can do to lift your mood is remove the giant L for LOSS from your Cubs stats. The season is over. No point in staring at that until April.

I know you purposely don't have a tree, but maybe part of your lack of holiday spirit is your dearth of decorations and the fact that you work from home, so you're not out among the holiday bustle. That and you live in a place where the temperature is pretty constant.

When I was out there for a project in December a few years ago, it was just too weird. Almost Christmas and around 75 degrees. Christmas lights on palm trees? Weird.

So if the holiday spirit isn't finding you, go forth and find it. Volunteer at a food bank or shelter or some such. Go hang out at the mall and watch the kids visit Santa. It's hard to be jaded about the holidays when you see it through the eyes of a child.

There will always be bad in the world, unfortunately. But as Hugh Grant tells us in "Love, Actually," love really is all around. Think of the arrivals gate at Heathrow or baggage claim at LAX. There's a lot of good in the world, too. A lot of love. Sometimes, you just have to look for it a little more closely.

No, it IS you. I know because it's ME too!
I am the Grinch at my house and bleeping proud of it! And, for once, I'm not the only one.

But, cheer up, Dave. Something will come along. Don't know when or where but it will.

Keep the faith.
